About...

The term Educational Expedition was coined sometime around 2008 (to the best of our recollection)
by Mike and Sara Barlow creators of Trailmix.Net, a children's outdoor shop that blends
education with adventure.

At first the term was used to describe goal setting for the purpose of adventure.  An
Educational Expedition could be anything from a bug safari to a tromp in the woods.  During
this time the couple had created educational scavenger hunts in Old Sacramento and
Yosemite National Park.

The increased popularity of smart phones changed the scavenger hunt platform.  Where
scavenger hunts used to be limited by the size of paper and cost of printing, electronic hunts
allowed maps, photos, text, and even interactive reporting between hunters and headquarters
at a very low price.  This technological advancement took the idea of the Educational
Expedition to the next level.
